Apam, April 11, GNA – Although Gomoa District received the least money for the organisation of the District Mutual Health Insurance, the working group has reached an advanced stage.
Briefing the GNA at Apam, Dr. Theophelus Koomson, Chairman of the working group said the group had successfully passed through 11 stages of training of the interim Ghana Health Insurance Scheme board members. He said the Gomoa District received 100 million cedis while others had between 250 million and 600 million cedis for organisation of the scheme. The standardized budget for the district mutual health organisations released to the districts indicated that Gomoa was allocated nothing for operational research on co-payment pretext and health facilities whilst other districts were allocated between 40 million and 60 million cedis. It received nothing for community durbars, stake holders meetings, publicity, posters, health insurance collection agents meeting health insurance assembly meetings, coding of streets and houses, listing of residents office set-up and purchase of digital camera and accessories. He said the registration of the GHIS members and payment of premiums would follow photographs for ID cards and hospital attendance cards would be the next stage he added.
Dr. Koomson commended the district assembly for providing them with some funds to enable the working group to continue with the programme.
He appealed to the government to explain the reason for the discrimination in allocation of funds to the districts even though Gomoa was the largest district in the Central Region in term of landmass and the second largest in term of population.
