Gomoa Chief warns citizens against bushfires

Nana Twumasi Owuya III, Tufohene of Gomoa-Sampa, has appealed to people in the area to desist from indiscriminate setting of fires.

He said strategies should be adopted as a nation to protect and provide adequate food between now and the next year rainy season.

Nana Twumasi Owuyah said this in a New Year message to his people in the area and appealed to farmers, palm wine tappers, smokers, individual and group hunters to ensure proper and prudent handling of fire during the dry period.

“This is the excellent contribution you could make towards national safety as far as prevention of fire disasters is concerned,” he said and warned that anyone caught burning the bush indiscriminately in any part of the Gomoa-Sampa Traditional Area would not be spared by the traditional authorities.

“It is the collective obligation of all Ghanaians, particularly people in the rural communities, to assist in providing maximum care and protection to the country’s forest reserves,” the chief said.

On road network, Nana Twumasi Owuyah repeated his call on the government to repair the bridge linking Gomoa-Sampa and Gomoa Brofo.

According to the Tufohene who is also a farmer, due to the bad nature of the bridge, big trucks could not go to the town to cart foodstuffs produced by farmers in the area to marketing centres.

This, he said, was hampering the efforts of farmers in the community to contribute their quota to the economic growth of the nation and their children’s education.

“It is my fervent hope and strong expectation that government would after this report initiate moves to rehabilitate the damaged bridge linking Gomoa-Sampa/Gomoa Brofo towns to facilitate the flow of big trucks,” the Tufohene said.
