Gomoa bans school kids from watching TV at night

The Odikro of Gomoa Onyadze in the Gomoa West District of the Central region, Nana Gura IV has banned school children in the area from going to town to watch television after 8:30pm.

Parents, whose children will be spotted in town around that time, will be fined.

Speaking at the annual Akwambo festival celebrated in the area on Saturday, Nana Gura stated that since education is the bedrock of the development of every nation, he will ensure that illiteracy becomes a thing of the past.

He expressed concern about the way some parents send their children to the farms to help them during classes’ hours.

Nana Gura noted that no parent has the right to take his or her school going age child to farm during the period, stressing that his outfit will deal drastically with parents found culpable.

“Although your children have the right to help when the need arises, they can do that during weekends and not during class hours when their friends are busily learning,” he stated.

He said government had introduced many policies such as School Feeding Programme, Capitation Grant, Free Distribution of School Uniforms, among others to boost education.

Nana Gura therefore charged parents to support the education of their wards.

The MP for the area, Francis Arthur disclosed that all the roads in the Gomoa District had been awarded on contract, stressing that by October all the Gomoa roads will be tarred.
