Golden Beach Hotels to support development of Elmina

Elmina, Oct 13, GNA- The board of directors of the Golden Beach Hotels of which the Elmina Beach Resort is a subsidiary has undertaken to contribute 10,000 US dollars annually towards the development of Elmina as part of its social responsibility to the community.

The Methodist Junior Secondary School at Elmina will be the first to benefit from the package with a facelift. This would involve landscaping, provision of new furniture and a toilet and repainting Nana Ato Arthur, the District Chief Executive for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA), said this at the second ordinary meeting of the assembly at Elmina on Wednesday.

Nana Arthur reiterated the government’s determination to bring education to the doorstep of very Ghanaian and last month selected 40 districts, including the KEEA, to enjoy free basic education. He said 20 million cedis from the district education fund, has been allocated for the district’s best teacher awards ceremony. On revenue mobilization, he said the assembly collected 626,062,676.37 cedis out of its targeted revenue of 792,074, 000.00 cedis, and has received 2,094,346,075 cedis as its share of the common fund.

He said the health insurance scheme in the district will take off next week, and urged all residents to embrace it. Nana Arthur urged the assembly members and the people in the district in general to tolerate opposing political views to ensure a peaceful general election.

The assembly, unanimously, re-elected Mr Frank Appiah, an educationist, as its presiding member, for the third time running. It later distributed school uniforms, bags and other educational materials to 1,192 primary and JSS pupils. It also settled school levies totaling 3,614,000.00 cedis for 373 defaulting pupils.
