Goethe Institute commends Ghanaian journalists

Berlin, Sept. 23, GNA – The Goethe Institute has commended six Ghanaian journalists who undertook an information tour of Germany for exhibiting a high international standards.

Ms Monika Hesse, Director of the Institute, who made the commendation in Berlin, noted: “Your rapid response and understanding of German culture and political system, frank interviewing techniques and cordial interactive skills are highly appreciated.”

Ms Hesse was interacting with the journalists who were in Germany to witness elections in the states of Brandenburge and Sachsen between September 11 and September 22.

The tour afforded the journalists the opportunity to gather information on the political system of the Federal Republic of Germany, especially its federal structures, electoral systems and the relevance of exist polls.

The tour, which also exposed the journalists to modern methods of election observing and reporting, was sponsored by the Federal Republic of Germany and facilitated by the Goethe Institute.

The journalists, drawn from the electronic and print media are: Mr Boakye-Dankwa Boadi and Mr Francis Ameyibor of the Ghana News Agency, Ms Joyce Anim Ayeko of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Mr Frank George Asmah of the Ghanaian Times, Mr George Standford Folley of the Daily Graphic and Mr Albert Kofi Owusu of Joy FM.

Ms Hesse called for further cooperation between the two countries to strengthen bilateral relations.

Mr Karl Prinz, Head of the Federal Department for West and Central Africa, explained Germany’s policy towards Africa through the struggle for independence to modern states.

He said the German government adopted and implemented an open door policy towards Africa to win its support during the Cold War. Mr Prinz said since the creation of the European Union, German policy towards Ghana and Africa has been buried in the common agenda of the EU.
