Goaso court jails plantain thief

Goaso (B/A) June 15, GNA – A circuit court at Goaso in Asunafo North district of Brong Ahafo has sentenced Kwaku Asabere, a 55-year old farmer to six months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing a bunch of plantains.

He pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea. Inspector Douglas Asana, prosecutor, told the court presided by Mr. Charles Quampah that the complainant, Kofi Antwi, a farm labourer and the convict are both resident at Goaso.

He said for some time the complainant detected someone had been stealing his produce on his farm so on May 22 this year went and laid ambush on the farm to arrest the culprit.

The prosecutor said dame luck smiled on him as the convict came to the farm and harvested a bunch of plantains. Inspector Asana said the complainant shouted out the convict’s name and the latter immediately threw down the bunch and took to his heels. A report was made to the police and the convict was arrested.
