General Secretary for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, has challenged the Ghana Police Service to seek redress in court if the party fails to produce the mangled vehicle of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was traveling in when he had an accident at on the Bole-Bamboi road.
According to him, the police merely want see the vehicle and write it off as an accident.
“The police are not interested in any investigation whatsoever in its proper meaning and understanding. What they are interested in is seeing the vehicle so that they can write the conclusion that it was purely an accident and as such president Mahama and National security had no hand in it,” he said.
The Police are saying, failure to cooperate will compel them seek assistance from the law courts for further action; I am waiting for that day. If they want to go to court, let them go.”
The NPP General Secretary stated in an interview on Eyewitness News that: “Since Sunday, the Police has not taken the trouble to interview any of the victims but are only interested in white washing Mahama. None of his executives were involved in towing the vehicle to an unknown destination and the police had no proof that he knew the whereabouts of the vehicle. However I will reply to the MTTU accordingly.”
Meanwhile the Deputy Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU), Chief Superintendent Samuel Tetteh has noted that his outfit expects to get a response from the NPP as soon as possible.
“If they fail to let us have the vehicle, we shall be compelled to send them to court for the courts to compel them [NPP]. All we heard is that those in the vehicle were all party members. There was no other person so therefore they might know something about the whereabouts of the vehicle,” he said.
We did not mention anybody in particular when we wrote to the party; in our letter we didn’t mention any individual.”
