“Go for the Trophy, Not the Trend” – Amerado Advises Fellow Musicians

Ghanaian rapper Amerado has advised his fellow artists to shift their focus from producing songs solely for mainstream success and instead concentrate on creating meaningful and lasting music.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the award-winning rapper spoke candidly about the importance of artistic purpose, long-term financial planning, and resilience in the music industry.

“Make good music, do not chase hits. Do your bit and the spirits of grace will get things aligned,” he wrote.

Amerado’s message comes at a time when many Ghanaian musicians face pressure to produce viral or commercially successful songs—often at the cost of originality and artistic expression. The rapper, known for fusing lyrical depth with traditional storytelling, called on his colleagues to remain true to their creative identities.

But his advice didn’t end there.

He stressed the importance of financial foresight and long-term planning, reminding artists that music is not just a passion but a business.

“Don’t forget to invest, anyway anyhow you can… Go for the trophy and turn your naysayers into believers,” he said, encouraging musicians to adopt a more strategic and entrepreneurial approach to their careers.

The post also carried a motivational undertone, one that urged resilience in the face of industry criticism and self-doubt.

“Wodi boys ano akyi a wombor bra!” he added, ending the post with a line in Twi loosely translating to “If you don’t back the boys, then don’t block the path.” The line, interpreted by fans as a call for support within the creative community, resonated deeply on social media.

Amerado, whose real name is Derrick Sarfo Kantanka, has carved a niche for himself in Ghana’s music landscape through consistency and lyrical craft. Known for hits like Obiaa Boa and his viral Yeete Nsem series, he continues to use his platform to inspire younger artists navigating the often unpredictable terrain of the music industry.

His post has since drawn praise from fans and creatives alike, with many lauding his grounded outlook and commitment to substance over stardom.

In an industry where virality can sometimes overshadow value, Amerado’s message is a timely reminder: longevity is earned not by chasing trends, but by staying true to one’s voice.
