The National House of Chiefs (NHC), has made a passionate appeal to members of the striking Labour Unions, to return to work, while their executives dialogue with government- to resolve the impasse over the second tier pension scheme.
The House encouraged the parties to engage in negotiation and dialogue to find a common ground.
Making the appeal through a statement signed by the acting Registrar, Mr. A.K. Essien, the NHC expressed worry about the cost of the industrial action, noting that “the effect and impact of the strike on the Ghanaian cannot be quantified, as schools, hospitals and other public sector institutions have come to a standstill.”
It said it, however, found it reassuring- the promise of full disclosure of the operations scheme made by the Employment and Labour Relations Minister.
The NHC said its expectation was that after this had been done, a way forward would be agreed upon.
It counseled that all discussions between the parties should be open and frank, to bring permanent a closure to the matter.
Twelve public sector labour unions across the country last week declared a strike action to protest against government’s decision to manage their second tier pension funds – a decision, they insist -is a breach of the pension law.
