Koforidua, Feb. 16, GNA – The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Ghana National Union of Polytechnic Students (GNUPS) has expressed concern about “the uneasiness, tension and anxiety” building up on campuses over the issue of job placement and academic progression “that has continually rendered the Polytechnic Graduate demoralized and stagnant.”
The NEC said although it was uncomfortable with the “foot dragging, delay tactics and politicisation” of the problem, there was need for restraint and calmness on campuses while negotiations continued with relevant stakeholders on the issue.
“Leadership wishes to assure all students and alumni of the polytechnic community that it will not relent on its efforts at finding lasting solutions to this problem that seen never to go away,” a statement signed by Mr Mohammed Ibn Issa Suka, National Secretary of GNUPS at Koforidua said on Monday.
In a related development, the Union called on all students and the youth of the country, especially those who had attained the age of 18 years and above to participate fully in the re-registration exercise scheduled for March 16-29.
“It is only through participation that we can have our voices heard and help in the strengthening of the democratic process,” the release added.
