GNTF donates to the physically handicapped

Sunyani Jan. 20 GNA – The Ghana National Trust Fund (GNTF) at the weekend donated equipment and items worth 30 million cedis to 10 physically handicapped persons at the Sunyani. The donation included hairdressing and sewing machines, pressing irons, rollers, khaki materials, gloves, pearl caustic soda and sodium hydrosulphite for tie and dye making.

Making the presentation on behalf of the Fund, Mr Yaw Agyei-Duffour, deputy Regional Minister for Brong-Ahafo, urged the beneficiaries to put the items to good use to enable them earn a living. Mr Duffour advised the public to recognize the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities.

Ms Joyce Frimpong, Executive Secretary of the GNTF, said the donation was aimed at assisting physically handicapped persons to enable them become economically independent adding, “This will also stop them from begging on the streets”. Ms Frimpong appealed to non-governmental organisations, philanthropists and religious bodies to contribute to the Fund to enable it assist more physically handicapped people.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Alex Amponsah, a shoemaker, on behalf of his colleagues, thanked the Fund for the gesture and gave the assurance that the items would be put to good use.
