Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Services (GNFS) successfully doused a fire outbreak at Tema Community 11 in the early hours of Wednesday.
The fire, which occurred at about 0200 hours, consumed one room in the house, which contained documents and a refrigerator.
Mr Kwabena Agyapong, a taxi driver who detected the fire, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that he had just finished church prayers and was on his way home when he saw fire burning in the house.
He added that he thought someone was burning something, so he parked his car and went to knock on the door to tell them to quench the fire since it was not safe to burn at that time of night.
He said it was when he got down that he realised it was the house that was on fire; he therefore knocked on the door to wake the residents up and shouted for other people living nearby to also wake up and help.
He noted that a distress call was then made to the fire service, whose personnel were dispatched to douse the fire.
According to the residents of the house, no one slept in the room where the fire started; therefore, no injuries were recorded.
Mr Solomon Koranteng, an Assistant Station Officer at the Tema Regional Office of the GNFS, said the cause of the fire was not immediately known, adding that investigations would be carried out to ascertain it.
He advised the public to have fire extinguishers in their homes to help in controlling such fires while fire personnel locate the scene, noting that, for instance, if the victims had an extinguisher in the house, they could have easily quenched it before it escalated.
He also advised the public to turn off all appliances when going to bed or leaving the house to prevent fire outbreaks and urged them to keep the fire emergency number 192 in their minds and phones to make it easy for them to call for help in such emergencies.
