GNFS to set up National Accident Mapping Programme

Brigadier General John Bosco Guyiri, acting Chief Fire Officer of Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has announced plans to set up a National Accident Mapping Programme.

The programme is been carried out to identify all accidents prone areas within the country and to deploy Road Traffic Collision Units (RTCU) with the acquisition of equipment in due course.

A statement signed by Mr Ellis Robinson Okoe, acting Head of Public Relations and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra said Brig Guyiri made the remarks in a presentation at the Annual General Meeting of the World Rescue Organisation (WRO) in Florida, United States, as part of activities to mark to the World Road Traffic Collision Extrication Competition.

The statement said Brig Guyiri noted that GNFS plans to address all observations and recommendations made by National Instructors and United Kingdom Rescue Organisation (UKRO) during the 2013 inspection/Audit, which would be in the area of training, record keeping and equipment maintenance.

It said through the support of the WRO and UKRO, the GNFS has RTCU in all the regions although a lot remains to be done.

The statement said the GNFS participated in the complex, Rapid and standard stages of the competition and remains at the enviable position of second in Africa and determined to do its best to maintain the standard required by the WRO.
