GNFS to educate households on fire prevention.

Tema, April 30, GNA – The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) would by the middle of this year embark on a house-to-house fire education programme in the Tema Metropolis to help curb fire outbreaks. Fire personnel would under the programme, train individuals in every house in the Municipality on the causes and prevention of fire

outbreaks. Mr Kwabla Taah Korang, Acting Tema Regional Fire Officer said this on Tuesday when he paid a courtesy call on the Tema Mantse, Nii Adjei Krakue II.

Mr Korang said apart from the household training, fire seminars would be organized at the market and companies regularly to ensure that the right preventive measures were taken.

He observed that, in addition to industrial fire, domestic fire was among the highest recorded in the Municipality last year, which called for the need for such education.

Mr Korang noted that, the Service and individuals would benefit a lot from the programme since people would know how to control fire before calling in fire fighters.

In another development, the new Managing Director of the Fishing Harbour Division of the Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority, Mr Mike Griffins has officially introduced himself to the Tema Traditional Council.

Mr Griffins promised to collaborate with the Council to ensure that sanity prevailed at the fishing harbour.

Nii Krakue thanked the GNFS officers for their dedicated service and prompt response to fighting fires in the Municipality and lauded the initiative to educate households.

He also pleaded with the Fishing Harbour management to help canoe operators acquire the needed insurance. Meanwhile, the Tema Traditional Council has announced that a ban would be placed on drumming and noise making from May 2 to May 23 this year in preparation for the celebration of the annual Homowo festival.
