GNFS cautions against improper use of candles

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), has asked the public to be cautious in the use of candles and other naked lights to avoid lost of lives and property.

A statement issued in Accra by the Acting Public Relations Officer of GNFS, T. Osafo-Twum and copied to GNA said if candle lights are not handled properly, they could result in serious fire outbreaks.

The statement noted that as result of the current electric power rationing there is the need for the public to be alert in the use of candles.

He advised that candles could be used when they are placed in ceramic bowls or other similar wares with some level of water so that when the fire gets to the water level it would go off by itself.

The statement mentioned the Abuja and New Town fires as example of such dangers posed by improper use of candles.

The GNFS advised the public to observe the precaution to avoid fires that occur as a result of the use of candles.
