Kumasi The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) and the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) have been asked to coordinate their activities to achieve their common objectives. The call was made by Mr Thomas Abdulai Boateng, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, when he opened a six-day seminar on Trade Unionism at the Christian Village in Kumasi today. The seminar, the second of four being organized by TEWU this year, forms part of a three-year education programme by TEWU with financial assistance from the International Trust Secretariat, Education International based in Brussels, and the Netherlands Federation of Trade Unions. It is being attended by 36 participants drawn from the Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions. Mr Boateng noted that, as members of sister associations performing complementary roles, there are bound to be occasional conflicts in their approach to some issues because of differences in the perceptions and aspirations of their workers. He, therefore, advised TEWU to educate its members to always approach their duties conscientiously and responsibly.
