GNAT commends EC for peaceful conduct of Election 2012

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) on Friday commended the Electoral Commission for the peaceful conduct of Election 2012.

“We commend democratic stakeholders, particularly the EC, religious bodies, traditional rulers, political parties, the national peace council, and all Ghanaians for conducting themselves in a disciplined manner which made the elections peaceful.

“On behalf of our members we congratulate President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Candidate for his election into the highest office of the land,” a statement from GNAT to the Ghana News Agency signed by Mr. Samuel Doe Alobuia, Acting National President of the Association said.

The statement said the Association was satisfied with President Mahama’s assurance that “he will be a president for all, irrespective of one’s political leanings”.

The statement said GNAT was looking forward to having a fruitful working relationship with the government, under the Presidency of Mr John Mahama.

GNAT also acknowledged the New Patriotic Party’s quest to seek electoral redress through the law courts.

The Association therefore appealed to all Ghanaians to remain calm so as not to disturb the peace the country had cherished and enjoyed over the years.

“We are happy to note that Ghana continues to show the light in its democratic dispensation and this we must jealously guard.

“Once again, we say “Ayekoo” to all Ghanaians for peaceful and successful elections” the statement added.
