GNAT calls for early determination of category 2 and 3 allowances

Government has been asked to come out quickly with modalities for the determination and payment of category 2 and 3 allowances under the Single Spine Salary Structure.

Mr. Linus Attey, Volta Regional Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), who made the call, said this would help the association to update the collective agreement for teachers in the Ghana Education Service.

He was addressing a workshop for executives of the GNAT-Ladies Society (GNAT-LAS) in the Volta Region, on the “Property Rights of Spouses Bill and Managing Marriage Problems and Stress,” in Ho.

Mr. Attey said the workshop sought to educate members of GNAT on national laws and issues that affected their welfare.

He appealed to Government to undertake a head count of teachers in the country, to ensure that no teacher was left out in the computer-for-teachers initiative.

Mr. Attey said the 80,000 computers yet to be distributed to teachers, fell far short of the estimated 162,000 teachers in the country.**
