Accra, June 3, GNA – Nana Appau Duah, Acting General Manager of the Ghana News Agency (GNA), on Friday said the Agency was hoping to reopen some of its foreign offices that had been closed down for the past 10 years and post full time reporters there. The Agency had offices in Lagos, Addis Ababa, London and New York.
He said the Agency still remained committed to its principle of accuracy and fairness to all. He said the First President of Ghana, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, founded the Agency with the aim of giving Africans the opportunity to tell their own story and to promote Pan-Africanism.
Nana Appau Duah, who is the Supervising Chief Editor, was interacting with students from the University of Akron in the US led by Dr Emeka Ofobike, an Associate Professor.
The students, who are on a study tour of Ghana organised by the Diaspora Travel and Tours, visited the GNA to know the operations of the only wire service in the country.
Nana Appau Duah said the Agency covered Ghana for the outside world and had reporters and stringers in every part of the country. “Although we can’t compare our financial strength to that of foreign news agencies, we can say that we are doing very well in terms of quality of output,” he said.
Nana Appau Duah said although the GNA was a State subvented organisation, it operated independently and ensured objective reportage for both the Government and opposition political parties and other clients.
