GMMB launches digitised version of its Treasure Chest

The Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB) in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut- Ghana, has launched a digitised or video version of its Treasure Chest project aimed at storing works of arts, messages and artifacts from children of present day Ghana for the future generation.

The Treasure Chest which is a global initiative by Faust Institute and Projekt Berlin, Germany, would be opened in 2057.

Addressing the press, Nana Nyarkua Ocran, Deputy Director of Education- GMMB, said the main objective of the initiative was to educate future Ghanaian children on how citizens of Ghana lived fifty years back.

It was to promote and preserve present day cultural values for future children, ensure continuity and change and cultural skills, she said.

Some of the issues contained in the digitised version included the need to plant more trees, the issue of streetism, lack of girl child education and how women used stones for grinding.

She said thousands of entries were received from school children between the ages of 10 and 14 from all the 10 regions of the country but only 50 were selected to be placed in the Treasure Chest.

“Out of the fifty, only four entries were selected for the digitised version which would be stored for our future children,” she said.

Nana Ocran cited funding as the main challenge of the GMMB and called on all organisations to come to its aid.

Mr Robert Sabotta, Director of Goethe-Institute- Ghana, expressed the readiness of the outfit to support the Board for a successful project since the institute had a strong passion for issues relating to children.
