GMA suspends intended March 3 strike

The Ghana Medical Association has suspended its intended strike scheduled for Monday.

The association, prior to this decision served notice to government that its members will embark on a nationwide strike on March 3 in protest to what they described as failure of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to execute orders of the National Labour Commission.

The doctors accused government of reneging on its promises concerning their grievances.

Deputy General Secretary of the association, Dr Justice Yankson, told XYZ NEWS that they are expected to meet the Labour Commission next week on the matter so all members must be at post until leadership decides otherwise.

Meanwhile, Government Hospital and Pharmacists have given the government a one week ultimatum to correct distortions concerning their migration onto the Single Spine Salary Structure.

The association is accusing government and the health ministry of reneging on promises made for the enforcement of a ruling to that effect.

But the Executive Director of the NLC, Bernice Welbeck maintained that the regulatory body is committed to addressing labour challenges in the country.
