GMA leadership to be impeached over strike

There are moves within the membership of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) to impeach their leadership, StarrFMonline.com has learnt.

Some members of the association are angered by what they describe as the unilateral decision taken by their leadership to call off their three-week-old strike.

They also claim some of their executives embarrassed the association with their utterances in the heat of the strike.

Starr News’ Ashanti regional correspondent, Isaac Bediako Justice, who has been interacting with some of the aggrieved doctors, says there appears to be a ground swirl of support for the course in the Ashanti region.

Ghanaian doctors called off their three-week-old strike on Friday after pleas from the general public, chiefs and government.

The doctors are demanding codified conditions of service – a package they have been fighting for in decades.

Ghana’s Employment and Labour Relations Minister, Haruna Iddrisu is optimistic once negotiations are reopened today, Monday, August 24, per the directive of the National Labour Commission, a deal with the GMA is likely to be clinched by the end of October.
