Accra, Aug. 10, GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor said on Friday that as the world pushed towards greater economic development and prosperity through globalisation, this should be underpinned by fellow feeling. The strong, the weak and the handicapped should all be able to live together, using fellow feeling as social safety net of globalisation, he said, when he received the internationally acclaimed Evangelist Reinhard Bonke at the Castle, Osu.
He is in the country to participate in the Centenary Celebration by the Pentecostal Charismatic Movement. President Kufuor said it was important for people to be constantly reminded to maintain a balance between material demands of life and spirituality.
He said, while doing everything to make life economically better, it was important to make sure that they managed materialism with conscience.
It was by so doing that we would become more humane to make things better in the society, he said. The Reverend Bonke, said from what he has seen God doing in Africa, there would come a day when, the continent would become the vanguard of the world.
Earlier, Elhadji Mamadou Falilou, the outgoing Guinean Ambassador called on President Kufuor to bid him farewell. He is leaving for his country, at the end of his seven-year duty tour and said he could not hide his admiration for the leadership President Kufuor was providing not only for Ghana but Africa.
“I am delighted to have had the opportunity to witness the tremendous economic transformation that has taken place in your country within the last seven years.” “Your role in helping to bring peace to trouble spots not only in the West African sub-region but the entire continent, Mr President, has been commendable.”
President Kufuor praised the Ambassador for serving very well and asked him to put his accumulated experience at the service of his country, ECOWAS, Africa and humanity. He recalled the excellent relations that existed between the two countries and said the Ghana-Guinea-Mali Union provided the impetus for the formation of the African Union, formerly the OAU.
