Global Evangelical Church gets new officers

Accra, Jan. 4, GNA – A six-member executive of the Global Evangelical Church (GEC) headed by the Moderator, Reverend Emmanuel Gbordzoe, was inducted into office on Sunday with a call on church leadership to demonstrate practical Christianity through service to humanity.

The Rev. Dr. Elom Dovlo, Director of Studies of GEC and lecturer at the University of Ghana, said leadership means that the work of the church should go beyond preaching at service.

He said: “leadership is not only based on talking and big theological arguments but also on practical social services. “We must reach out to the poor, to the lonely, to the sick, to the rich, to the lame… not only in our Church but to our nation and entire humanity.”

Other members inducted into office were Rev. Setowu Ofori, Synod Clerk, Rev. Samuel Dumevi, Programmes and Inter-Church Relations Director, Mr. Simpson Kuleke, Treasure. The rest were Mrs Enyonam Keteku and Mr. Edward Agozie, Executive Members.

Rev. Dovlo urged the new officers to discharge their responsibilities creditably by using the word of God, which represents the laws of God, to teach their congregation.

He said leadership should not be found in assertiveness but in love and self-sacrifice.

Rev. Gbordzoe, in his maiden speech after being inducted into office by Rev. Ferdinard Gbewonyo, the out-going Moderator, said the Church was developing a group of people that the nation could rely on. “We are developing a group of people, who will not only be found in all areas of the Ghanaian economy but also a people, who will positively function wherever they are found and who will have the interest of the nation at heart.”

He said the Church was establishing structures and institutions to prepare its members to lead lives built on biblical principles. Rev. Gbordzoe had earlier been decorated with a sash and presented with a Bible as symbols of his new office.

The Global Evangelical Church broke away from the Evangelical Church, Ghana after a legal tussle and adopted its new name in August last year and out-doored the new name last in December.
