Gladys Asmah’s Husband Laid To Rest

The remains of the late Chairman of the Board of the Forestry Commission, John Asmah, has been laid to rest at his hometown – Ndasimam near Anomabo. The late Asmah was the husband of the Minister of Women and Children Affairs, Gladys Asmah.

He died on February 9, 2003 at the age of 68. The burial service, held at the Anglican Church of Ascension in Takoradi was attended by a large number of mourners including the President, Ministers, Parliamentarians, Members of the Council of State, high government officials, the Clergy and Chiefs.

Also present were the Black Queens, the national female football team and women’s organisations.

President John Agyekum Kufuor and Madam Theresa Kufuor, the Senior Minister, J.H. Mensah; Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor, Minister of Defence; Hackman Owusu Agyemang, Minister of Interior and Papa Owusu Ankomah, Minister of Justice and Attorney General filed past the body.

Other Ministers including Yaw Osafo Marfo, Minister of Finance, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, Minister of Tourism and Modernisation of Accra and Kan Dapaah, Minister of Communications, Deputy Ministers and Mr Justice Amuah Sakyi, Chairman of the National Reconciliation Commission also paid their last respect.

The Anglican Arch-Bishop and Primate of the Province of West Africa, the Most Reverend Robert Okine conducted the service.

Tributes were read by the widow, Mrs Asmah, the children, family, the Anglican Church and others. Wreaths were laid on behalf of the President, government, the NPP, the widow, children and the 1949/53-year group of Adisadel College among others.
