GJA urges media to promote good govenance

Tamale, Jan. 17, GNA – The Northern Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has urged the Media to be committed to the promotion of good governance and human rights in the Region in particular and the country as a whole.

In a New Year message signed by its Regional Chairman, Mr Alhassan Imoru, the Association advised the media to respect the basic principles of journalism by being objective, responsible, accurate and fair in their reportage to ensure the promotion of good governance and human rights.

The Association reminded the Media about the volatile situation in some parts of the Region, especially Tamale and Yendi and urged the practitioners to be vigilant and ensure that their airwaves and newspapers were not used “to beat the war drums”.

It also urged the Media to avoid playing the role of self-appointed spin-doctors for politicians and political parties but to strive to get the public interested in their stories by always crosschecking their facts before publishing.

The Association advised the Media to resolve this year to preach peace on a sustained basis to promote peaceful-co-existence among the people.
