GJA disclaims Flip Africa Media Consult

Tamale, May 24, GNA – The Northern Regional Branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) on Monday disclaimed the Flip Africa Media Consult and asked it to refrain from using the GJA to solicit for funds. A statement signed by Mr. Alidu Baba, the Northern Regional GJA chairman said, “The Northern Regional Branch of the GJA wishes to inform corporate bodies, organizations and the general public in and outside the region that the GJA has no hand in the organization of any impending awards ceremony for media practitioners in the three Northern regions as is being advertised in the media.”

The statement said the event was solely the responsibility of Flip Africa Media Consult, a Tamale-based business entity and not a collaborative venture with the GJA.

The statement said the GJA was surprised to receive phone calls from some organisations and some district assemblies about proposals for funding of the programme, which the GJA was not aware of any proposals to solicit funding for the programme.

“We, however, wish to add that the event organizers, (FAMeC Ghana) , indeed, wrote a letter, dated 24th December, 2009 and signed by one Jemima Emefa Mensah , Administrative Director, to the GJA Regional Secretary, to notifying him about the proposed awards ceremony and not to enter into any arrangement with the GJA”, the statement explained.

Mr. Baba therefore advised the organizers to refrain from using the GJA’s name and logo in their fund-raising campaign and announcements concerning the event. He said the GJA was not against any group of persons coming out to award media practitioners in the region but rather against the use of the GJA name to gain credibility to solicit for funding. 24 May 10
