GJA calls for balanced reportage

Accra, Jan 7, GNA – The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) on Monday called on media practitioners to make it a policy to provide fair and balanced coverage, especially in the two major forthcoming events; the 26th MTN African Cup of Nations, Ghana 2008 tournament and the general elections in December.

In a New Year Message to all Journalists and media practitioners the GJA said, ” As part of our contribution to the holding of free, fair, transparent and peaceful elections in December, we remind all members to abide by the ethics of our noble profession by being fair to all sides and accurate in our reportage”.

The message signed by Mr Ransford Tetteh, GJA President said the New Year presented the Association the opportunity to urge media personnel, particularly Journalists and Photojournalists to take a sober reflection of the past and resolve to correct what they did contrary to the ethics of the profession and demonstrate greater commitment to professionalism. The GJA further wished all Ghanaians, particularly media practitioners a happy new year and thanked the public for its support to media development.

The Association also expressed gratitude to its collaborators and partners who continued to provide training and capacity building for journalists to deepen democracy. “It is our hope that the collaboration will continue so that the media will continue to discharge its constitutional obligation of ensuring public accountability to promote the development of the country”, the message added.
