Give NPP second term to rule- Edumadze

Gomoa Aboso (C/R), Jan 14, GNA – Mr Isaac Edumadze, Central Regional Minister, has called on Ghanaians to return the New Patriotic Party (NPP) back in the 2004 general election to continue the good work it started three years ago.

He said the government deserved another term because the economy, which was in shambles has resuscitated due to effective and efficient policies.

In a speech read on his behalf at the climax of the Annual Akwambo Festival of Chiefs and People of Gomoa Aboso, near Agona Swedru, Mr Edumadze said the government under the leadership of President J A Kufuor had started improving all sectors of the economy.

He stated that government would fulfil its promises before the end of its four-year term, adding that, the people voted massively for the NPP in the 2000 elections for socio-economic advancement.

The Minister noted that the nation had benefited immensely from the adoption of the HIPC initiative, saying, it had assisted in the construction of schools, hospitals and the provision of sanitation equipment for District, Municipal and Metropolitan Assemblies.

He pointed out that the initiative also has helped the nation to get a grant from Japan government instead of a loan for the re-construction of Mallam-Kasoa-Winneba junction road.

Mr Edumadze asked the people to embrace the National Health Insurance Scheme to replace the Cash and Carry System, which was a source of worry to the government and Ghanaians.

The Regional Minister urged people in the Gomoa District to support the President Special Initiative on Cassava to alleviate poverty in the area.

He called on the parents to send their children especially the girl-child to school because education was key to national development and said that was the reason why the government was putting up school structures.

The Minister assured the people of Gomoa Aboso that the District Assembly would provide refuse containers to improve sanitation in the area.

Mr Peter Appoh, Chairman of the Project Implementation Committee, said over 50 million cedis had been realised for the construction of a Water Closet toilet for the town.

He asked citizens of the town living outside to visit home regularly to contribute to the development of the area.
