Give Akufo-Addo free hand to fix the country – Kufuor tells critics

The Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has charged critics of President Akufo-Addo to judge him by the quality of his work and not the number of his Ministers.

The President has so far named 36 Ministers, but his critics have argued that many of the portfolios including the Ministry of Aviation, Railway Development and Transport are just duplication of functions. The creation of the Ministry of Inner City and Zongo Development also drew some level of condemnation.

But the former President in an interview with the media at his residence, said Ghanaians must give President Akufo-Addo the free hand to to fix the country.

“We didn’t vote for nothing. We voted because we expect him to give solutions to us. And he says this is the way I can do the work, and you sit on the sidelines to say I won’t allow you to use the method you can use to give us solutions. So allow the President to fix his team and measure him by the way he delivers the results and not the numbers of his Ministers.

On the controversial request of President Mahama to keep his official residence as part of his retirement package and the debate of the emolument of Article 71 Office Holders, the former President said Ghanaians should resort to the constitution if they want its provision and the matter changed.

“…We are a country of laws. We talk of Rule of Law. If there is something in there you do not like, go back to seek solution in the constitution. You want to reform it, use the constitutional prescription for solution; not until you’ve done it you shouldn’t waste too much time on it.”
