GIS arrests 49 illegal Nigerian immigrants

Immigration and health officials in the Volta region are profiling and screening some forty nine illegal immigrants who were arrested Friday at a Police barrier near Banda in the Krachie-Nchumuru district of the Volta region.

The immigrants who claim to be fulanis from the Oyo state in Nigeria were travelling to Chinderi, the capital of Krachie-Nchurumu but were deserted with their belongings at the ferry crossing area in Dambai by the driver who drove them from Nigeria.

According to their leader, who holds a Nigerian Voter I.D with the name Atiku Alhaji Adams, they were scheduled to arrive at Chinderi where they will engage in cattle herding.

In all, they are six adult males with 18 women and 24 children travelling in the group.

The Volta regional minister, Helen Ntoso has, however, indicated that the illegal immigrants will be repatriated after the immigration profiling and health screening is completed.
