Girl saved from being trafficked to Cote d’ Ivoire

Elubo (W/R) Feb. 24, GNA 97 The vigilance of members of the Anti-Trafficking Unit of the Ghana Immigration Service at the Elubo border saved a 12-year-old girl from being sent to Cote d’Ivoire to serve as a maid-servant. Mr Albert Ahajie, Assistant Superintendent of Immigration at the Elubo border, told the GNA that on December 9 last year the girl, Comfort Yeboah, was seen loitering at the 93Security Zone” at the Elubo border. When she was questioned, she said a woman was sending her to Cote d’ Ivoire.

Mr Ahajie said Comfort told them that the woman had crossed to the Ivorian side of the border at Noe and had asked her to walk to meet her there. Mr Ahajie said Comfort later gave them the telephone number of her mother and when she was called she expressed surprise at her daughter’s presence at the border. The girl has been reunited with her mother at Axim while the officers have intensified their operation at the border to prevent human trafficking across the border.
