GIMPA MBA students visit Washington mission on study tour

Understudying the manners in which business is done in the US and ways to improve business operations in Ghana, was the focus of 30 MBA students and faculty members fro GIMPA on a two week study tour in U.S.A.

The group led by Dr., Afua Kufuor, a faculty member of GIMPA paid a visit to Ghana Embassy in Washington on Friday February 25th to learn more about US-Ghana Trade and Investments. The tour which is part of their academic programme took the students to some universities and business organizations in various states across the US.

In an interaction, Dr. Afua Kufuor intimated that the purpose of this tour was to identify ways to improve upon entrepreneurial skills and obtained firsthand information about existing business opportunities.

His Excellency Ambassador Daniel Ohene Agyekum in his welcome speech outlined the work of the Embassy in promoting investment and business opportunities in Ghana to the US business community. He pointed out that, one of the cardinal roles of the Mission was to foster good relationship between the business community in the US and their counter-parts in Ghana. Three distinguished Ghanaian entrepreneurs in the US who were guest speakers at the function, included Mr. Ablade Odoi-Atsem, CEO, Odoi Associates, Dr. Charles Dankwah, CEO, Hawknad Manufacturing Industries Inc., and Mr. Charles Ofori, Certified Public Accountant and President of Ofori and Associates. The guest speakers unanimously noted that availability of credit facilities for entrepreneurs is easily accessible in US as compared to Ghana. Additionally, they also observed that the process of establishing business in the US is a bit more streamlined than in Ghana.

In effect it was identified that for Ghana to truly assume a middle income status, and become competitive in business, there is the need to constantly eliminate the bottlenecks to investments and business. Source: [email protected]
