GIJ not in support of any faction

Accra, July 12, GNA – The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) on Wednesday declared that it does not support any of the factions within the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS).

“The GIJ SRC is committed to a NUGS leadership which is focused, well-organized, completely united and seeks as its utmost concern the interest and welfare of all Ghanaian students,” it said in a statement signed by its President, Mr Augustine Ampoma Gudom. The GIJ SRC said until the leadership of NUGS was able to provide a united and common platform for all its members, it would not be part of or condone any factional NUGS Congress scheduled for the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi.

It said GIJ would in no way commit its funds to the election of leaders whose legitimacy could be questioned but reiterated the school’s position as a member of the national body.

“The GIJ SRC wishes to remind Messrs Okudzeto Ablakwa and Haruna Mahama of their oaths to seek and protect the interest and welfare of Ghanaian students and bury their non-existent differences for the benefit of the union,” the statement said.
