GHS900k judgment debt draining K’Bu

Huge judgment debt payments are draining funds of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, leaving it with little money to procure basic items for patient care, which is the concern raised by the senior staff of the health post.

Class News has intercepted a document that lists judgment debts paid between 2011 and 2015 totalling almost GHS900,000.

According to Mr Charles Offei-Palm, president of the Korle Bu Senior Staff Association, total monies paid in judgment debt by the hospital from August 2011 to date amount to GHC 875,809.53.

Staff of the hospital recently passed a vote of no confidence in the Chief Executive.

Out of the 2,000 senior staff members, 1,500 of them voted Wednesday December 9, 2015, to kick out Dr. Gilbert Buckle. According to Mr Palm, 89 per cent of the hospital’s total staff also want the CEO and Board Chair out.

The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives’ Association (GRNMA) of the Korle Bu district have also petitioned President John Mahama to sack the CEO. They have also made an appeal to the Ministry of Health to that effect.

The staff want the two to step down for allegedly mismanaging the facility.

The two were appointed in July 2014, following staff agitation against then acting CEO, Rev. Albert Okpoti Botwe, and then Board Chair Eddie Annan over similar concerns.
