GHS fighting against yellow fever in Amansie West

Kumasi, Oct. 25, GNA- The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has began an immunization exercise against the spread of yellow fever in the Amansie West District of Ashanti.

The ten day exercise has become necessary following the declaration of the district as a high risk zone by GHS due to reports that two cases of the disease have been recorded in the District and the Upper Denkyira District in the Central region.

Mr. Joseph Adomako, Amansie West District Director of Health Services, made these known in an interview with GNA in Kumasi on Wednesday. He said the exercise that began last Sunday and expected to end on October 31, would cover about 126,000 people aged two and above. Mr Adomako said health personnel were moving from house to house to immunize the people while others had also been placed at vantage points to carry out the exercise.

He appealed chiefs and other opinion leaders in the district to support the health authorities to prevent the disease from spreading.
