GHS and Ghana Red Cross undertake eye screening

Wa, Nov. 08, GNA – The Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the Ghana Red Cross Society in the Wa Municipality on Wednesday undertook an eye screening exercise for students of the Wa campus of the University of Development Studies (UDS).

The exercise, which had the theme “Healthy sight, Quality education”, was organized by the Students’ Representative Council of the Wa campus and sponsored by Ghana Telecom.

Miss Gifty Adobah, Women’s Commissioner of the SRC of the University, said it was aimed at checking eye diseases that were likely to pose a danger to the academic pursuits of the students. Since the campus was opened four years ago, she said, the students had never had access to any health education within the campus because the university’s health programme only covered medical treatment for minor ailments.

Miss Adobah said the exercise would be a regular feature and would be spread to include talks and lectures on all dangerous diseases. She appealed for more sponsorship packages from benevolent organizations and public-spirited citizens to enable them to carry out their health education programmes on the campus.
