GhC500k bribery claim against Mahama political gimmick — NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has rubbished claims by the New Patriotic Party that President John Mahama attempted bribing its Northern regional Chairman, Daniel Bugri Naabu.

Mustapha Hamid, the spokesperson of the Presidential candidate of the NPP Nana Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, November 29 accused Mahama and his brother Ibrahim of inducing Mr. Naabu with two SUVs, GHS3.3 million, GHS500,000 in October this year.

The said goodies, according to him, were meant to cajole the NPP’s Northern regional chairman to ditch the party and launch scathing tribalistic assault on Akufo-Addo, labeling him as intolerant to people from the Northern extraction.

“It’s terribly sad. This country is in serious trouble, we need to rescue this country from serious trouble. The presidency has been so depraved, so muddied, so dirty that I tell you in all sincerity as a Ghanaian that I feel terribly sad as a Ghanaian,” said Mr. Hamidu.

The NDC, however, denied the allegations from the NPP, describing them as baseless and calculated attempt to link Mahama to graft.

Reacting to the allegations minutes after they were made, the National Organiser of the governing NDC, Kofi Adams said owing to the president’s unprecedented achievements and the fact that he is in pole position to win the race to the Flagstaff House, he does not need to bribe people to concoct claims about the “bad character and leadership qualities” of Akufo-Addo.

He told Asempa FM in an interview Tuesday that “We have one week to election and so the NPP as a means of creating tension, have decided to hold unnecessary press conference just to tarnish the image of our President. They have no evidence because it is just a political gimmick.”
