Mr Mike Gizo, Minister of Tourism said this during a meeting with Miss Patience Adow, Eastern Regional Minister, at Koforidua yesterday on issues affecting the tourism sector in the region. The meeting appraised preparations being made towards a successful organisation of the joint 33rd World Tourism Organisation (WTO) Commission for Africa (CAF) meeting and the 24th Africa Travel Association (ATA) annual congress slated for May two, in Accra. The host day celebration will be held at Koforidua on May four. potentials which are mostly in the raw state and need to be developed. He said the importance of choosing Koforidua as the ‘Host City’ is an attempt to showcase the nation’s rich cultural heritage with the New Juaben municipality as the centre point.

He said he expects the region to take the lead in tourism development since it has potentials which, when well-tapped and efficiently managed, could make it a “showpiece of indigenous industrialisation.”

Miss Adow said the Regional Co-ordinating Council attached great importance to tourism development, adding that it is in recognition of this that the region was the first to organise a tourism night, which has now assumed a national identity.
