Among the 26,002 polling stations where elections took place last year, the smallest was in the Volta Region, Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan, the Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC) has revealed.
That polling station had four registered voters, he adds.
“Unfortunately, only two people voted [there] and our officials were there,” Dr Afari-Gyan stated while being led in evidence on Day 25 of hearing of the Election Petition that is challenging results of the December 7/8 elections.
The polling station is located in Kpandai, the EC chairman said. He averred that both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were represented by two polling agents each at the station.
He further observed that 25 ballots were allocated to that polling station, irrespective of the number of registered voters.
He, therefore, indicated that there was 525 per cent over of ballots allocated to that station.
Dr Afari-Gyan also mentioned that the largest polling station had the maximum number of registered voters of 1,100.
The statements were to address issues of over voting captured in the affidavit of the petitioners in the electoral dispute.
Dr Afari-Gyan indicated that the largest polling station even had ballots more than 1,100.
