Head of the Human Security at the National Security, Brigadier General Joseph Nunoo Mensah (retd) has reminded leaders that “all the problems we have in Ghana are human issues”.
He says “hunger, shelter/accommodation, employment among others are the basic needs of the people and they transform into insecurity if the citizens lack such basic needs”.
The former Chief of Defence Staff was speaking on Onua FM’s Yen Sempa hosted by Kwame Karikari on Wednesday.
He explained that “unemployment creates crime but African leaders have turned deaf ears unto these basic principles”.
The former National Security advisor said “African leaders make me sad because leaders go into politics to make money even though leaders are to serve and to lead”.
Brigadier General Nunoo Mensah said “we are not progressing as a nation because we are not disciplined. Parents must train their children because education is not the only university”.
YOUTH AND DEVELOPMENT
He reminded the youth that “there is no peace anywhere. Everywhere is hot so the youth must not sit and think someone will build Ghana for us. We Ghanaians must build it ourselves”.
Brigadier General Nunoo Mensah advised that “youth must struggle to gain what they want; but today, the youth don’t want to struggle. They want to make quick money”.
HOT KITCHEN
A few years ago he retorted agitated workers demanding better condition of service that “if the kitchen is too hot for you, get out”.
After that controversial refrain, General Nunoo Mensah said “President Mahama sent someone to tell me to cease fire after I made that comment and I stand by that comment 100%”.
He said workers go on strike without thinking of the nation, blamed both government and workers for the frequent unnecessary strikes.
He explained that “when you talk, they don’t listen that is why the nation is like this. We are not progressing”.
