Ghana’s peace tag is a self-imposed delusion – Prof. Nabila

The President of the National House of Chiefs says recent conflicts in some parts of the country have woken Ghanaians up from what he called a self-imposed delusion that Ghanaians are so peace-loving to the extent that they won’t fight.

Naa Prof. John Nabila said at a forum held by the Institute of Democratic Governance, that Ghanaians are sitting on conflict fault lines which could easily spark serious conflicts.

Prof Nabila was speaking about the need for peace in the country at all times.

He stated that “recent development suggests that the country is now waking up to the fact that the stability which has been characterized by the recent history of this country as a fragile foundation that the superstructure of peace and stability could crumble at anytime.”

He said the recent pockets of conflicts around the country prove that if care is not taken, there could be major fallout ahead of the elections.

Prof. Nabila also said Ghanaians must also shed the belief that it is only elections that can plunge the country into chaos.

“There is very good reason to believe in this claim, but I must caution against such inadequate interpretation of the underlying causes of such conflicts.”

He said if care is not taken, some individuals may just take advantage of such interpretations to foment trouble and blame it on political activities.
