Amakye-Bare (Ash), Jan 11, GNA – Mr James Adusei-Sarkodie, MP for Atwima-Nwabiagya, has advised politicians to help anchor the country’s democracy on the principles of truthfulness, morality and decency. He pointed out that resorting to falsehood, deceit, mischief and telling lies about opponents just for the sake of vote winning was most disgusting and dishonourable.
Mr Adusei-Sarkodie was addressing a durbar organised by the Chiefs and people of Amakye-Bare in the Atwima district to raise funds in aid of the extension of electricity to the community.
He said under no circumstance should Ghanaians allow partisan politics to tear them apart and stall the development of the nation. The MP told the people to be alert and guard against all forms of disinformation and manipulation by politicians who might want to sow seeds of confusion.
Mr Adusei-Sarkodie advised eligible voters to register during the impending voters registration exercise to enable them to have the power to decide who represents them in government.
The MP re-affirmed the government’s commitment towards improving rural infrastructure and said more rural communities in the district would enjoy electricity under the Self-Help Electrification Project (SHEP) between March and June, this year.
Mr Adusei-Sarkodie expressed concern about the poor performance of pupils in the community in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and asked parents to join hands with the teachers to help raise the standard of education.
The MP promised to offer scholarship to two brilliant but needy pupils in the community to further their education.
Mr Thomas Ofori-Donkor, Assembly Member, said through their initiative and with some support from benevolent institutions, the community now enjoyed potable water.
With the assistance of the District Assembly we are constructing a three-classroom block and a street drainage system, he added. An amount of eight million cedis was raised at the function. 11 Jan 04
