Ghanaians warned against multiple registration

Alhaji Abdulai Haruna Friday, Tamale Municipal Chief Executive, on Friday warned that any person caught engaging in multiple registrations in the upcoming biometric voter registration would be made to face the law.

He said the biometric system would be able to detect any person who would attempt to engage in electoral malpractices.

The MCE issued the warning when he joined the Ambariya Muslim community to offer special prayers to Allah for the blessing and peace bestowed on the nation as it mark it 55th Independence celebration.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has set March 24, for commencement of the registration exercise.

Alhaji Friday explained that the EC would not allow any person to vote in the December elections with the old voters’ registration card.

He also cautioned against the registration of minors thus persons below 18 years.

Sheikh Saeed Abubakari Zakaria, head of the Ambariya Muslim Community in Tamale, advised Ghanaians against inflaming passions during campaigns since it could cause violence.

Sheikh Zakaria advised the youth to help preserve the country’s peace and tranquility for national development.

He said the leadership of the Ambariya Mosque in Tamale would collaborate with stakeholders to ensure peace and development.

Sheikh Zakaria advised all political parties to be guided by the principles and teachings of Allah in dealing with people, which according to him was the only way to unite the people for development.**
