Ghanaians warned against electoral malpractices

Accra, Dec. 20, GNA – The National Security Council (NSC) has warned people recruiting non-registered Ghanaians and non-Ghanaians to vote in the forthcoming presidential election runoff to stop forthwith since they would be made to face the full rigours of law when caught. A statement Dr Sam Amoo, National Security Coordinator, signed on Friday said it had come to the notice of NSC that some people were recruiting nationals of other member States of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and Ghanaians, who did not register, to vote.

The statement reminded nationals of other ECOWAS countries and Ghanaians, who did not register, that they could not vote in the forthcoming Presidential Election runoff scheduled for December 28. The statement said: “All citizens from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) are to note that ECOWAS protocols allow for free movement of goods and people but not to vote in each others’ countries.”

“The National Security Council Secretariat cautions any person, who has been recruited for this illegal enterprise from the neighbouring countries and Ghanaians involved in this enterprise to refrain from this illegal action, which is punishable by the laws of Ghana.” The statement assured all law-abiding citizens that the Council was monitoring the development closely and would not shirk its responsibility in helping to provide a safe, secure and peaceful environment for the runoff of the Presidential polls.
