Hohoe, Nov. 16, GNA – Mrs. Cecilia Senoo, Executive Director of Ghana Rural Action Support Programme (GRASP) on Wednesday urged Ghanaians irrespective of their political affiliation to support measures towards the successful implementation of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
“The scheme is not being established for any political party and ill health knows no political party or bounds,” she stressed. Mrs. Senoo was addressing a two-day capacity training workshop for the board, management and collaborators of the Hohoe District Mutual Health Scheme.
The workshop was organized by the Hohoe District Assembly under the auspices of GRASP and supported by DANIDA.
Mrs. Senoo noted that despite the initial teething problem, the district made achievements in the collection of premiums. She said the board had an arduous task towards the successful implementation of the scheme adding “Hohoe district will not exist if majority of the people suffer from ill health.” Mr. John-Peter Amewu, Hohoe District Chief Executive stressed the need for the board of directors of the scheme to remain pro-active towards its implementation and address initial lapses. He said the input cost was high and must be guarded to fruition. Mr. Amewu commended GRASP and DANIDA for their crucial roles towards the successful implementation of the scheme.
Mr. Ronald Oppong, a Facilitator said the lifeline of the scheme was solidarity and called for repositioning the scheme and give value for money and health care in the country.
He advised the board and management against contravening the legal framework and bylaws on the scheme but operate within their limitations. Topics discussed at the workshop were, “The principle of health care insurance – the technical and legal perspective,” “Roles of the board and management,” “Risk management techniques” “Conflict resolution” and “Provider negotiation and contracting.” 16 Nov. 05
