Ghanaians urged to stem the spread of AIDS

Kumasi, June 6, GNA – Mr Daniel Kwablah, an official of the Kumasi office of Care International, has called for a concerted effort by Ghanaians to stem the spread of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in the country. He said in spite of the numerous HIV/AIDS eradication campaigns going on in the country, the disease continued to spread. Mr Kwablah made the call at an anti-HIV/AIDS education campaign organised by Interlife Vision Organisation Ghana, a Kumasi-based NGO on Sunday.

The Ghana AIDS Commission sponsored the campaign, which attracted the youth and other identifiable groups.

Mr Kwablah attributed the continued spread of the disease to lack of attitudinal change among Ghanaians and stigmatisation of people living with the disease by relatives and members of the community. He said everybody was at risk of the disease and urged relatives to show love and compassion for people living with the disease. Pastor Tony Otis Madata, chairman of the organisation, said the organisation cares for and promotes the welfare of HIV/AIDS victims and orphans.

He said the organisation was working closely with members in the community to seek their effective collaboration and participation in its activities to achieve the desired result. Pastor Madata urged relatives of HIV/AIDS victims not to neglect them but show love and compassion to enable them live longer.
