Ghanaians urged to patronise home made products

Mr Tom Budu, Akyemansa District Chief Executive has called on Ghanaians to erase the notion that only foreign goods are of superior quality.

He made the call during the 30th Farmers Day Celebration at Akim Adjobue on the theme: “Eat What You Grow.”

Mr Budu told Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that countries which are progressing encourage their nationals to patronise indigenous goods.

He spoke about a number of projects to boost agricultural production, which comprised the Inland Valley Rice Developments Project (IVRDP), West African Agricultural Productivity, and the Root and Tuber Improvement and Marketing Programme.

Mr Seth Yeboah, District Director of Agriculture, who elaborated on the theme: “Eat what you Grow,” spoke against the high rate of importation of food by the country.

He said annually Ghana spends $ 600 million to import rice, which he noted is devastating the economy.

Mr Yeboah said government is on course making the agriculture sector a pivot around, which the economy would grow.

The chief of Adjobue Nana Owusu Akyenteng III, appealed to the Agriculture Department and the District Assembly to make the town a beneficiary of the IVRDP.

The overall district best farmer, went to Mr Peter Osei 61, who was awarded with 24 inches flat screen television, a bicycle, a knapsack spraying machine, a full piece of cloth, a wall clock, four bars of soap, four cutlasses, two pairs of Wellington boots, and a certificate.
