The Afigya-Kwabre District Chief Executive, Mr Kwaku Kaakyire Oppong-Kyekyeku, has appealed to all Ghanaians to act responsibly and avoid tendencies likely to breach the peace as the nation prepared towards the December polls.
He said there was the need for political parties and their supporters to be more tolerant and civil.
Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku was addressing over 1,000 school children selected from both public and private basic and senior high schools at a parade to mark the 55th independence anniversary at Kodie.
Present were traditional and religious leaders, assembly members and the general public.
Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku appealed to the youth to refuse to be part of any political agenda to create confusion and chaos during and after the elections.
He said Ghana had won a lot of respect and international admiration for its democratic governance and this must be protected and that the prevailing peace and security should never be taken for granted.
Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku commended the security agencies for their vigilance and hard work and urged them to continue to be alert to maintain law and order and assure the people of their safety.
Mr Ignatius Mwinbe-Ere Der, the District Director of Education, urged the school children to uphold the values of hard work and integrity, saying this was the path to success.
Teachers should also show commitment and dedication to the job.
“We need to keep the flame that was lit 55 years ago burning by rededicating ourselves, individually and collectively, towards the task of nation building,” he said.
