Ghanaians should stop insulting President Mills- Founding member

Winneba (C/R), Sept. 15, GNA – Mr Kofi Mintah, a founding member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has admonished Ghanaians to respect President John Evans Atta Mills and stop castigating him without justification.

He said the cultural values of the country forbid especially the youth to insult people who are older than them and this must be applied to the President.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Winneba in the Central Region, Mr Mintah expressed concern about how some people are hidin= g behind Ghana’s democratic dispensation 93to make politics nasty through insulting behaviour”.

He asked the citizenry to accord the President the respect and the support he need to steer the nation to development. Mr Mintah, who was the first Central Regional Chairman of the NDC, advised FM Stations to moderate their public interactive programmes, especially phone-in calls to maintain national cohesion, integration and unity. He said the careless use of the tongue could endanger the peace the nation is enjoying.

Mr Mintah asked the political parties not to support their leaders blindly and rather caution them when they are going wrong. He said the political parties should be bold to scold their supporters who display insubordination and insult their opponents. He advised members of the NDC to embark on house to house campaigns to boost the chances of the government for re-election in 2012. Mr Mintah asked the leadership of the party to intensify publicity on the achievements of the government for Ghanaians to decide whether it deserve a renewed mandate or not.
